About Castlen
Castlen Kennedy is currently pursuing her Dual Masters at the University of Texas at Austin. She is working toward a Masters in Public Affairs and a Masters of Arts in Energy & Earth Resources. She works part-time for Apache Corporation.
About the Trip
As part of her graduate research, Castlen is taking a road trip from Austin to Boston, in a car powered completely by compressed natural gas (CNG). The nine-day trip will start on May 19 and end on May 27. She’ll use the journey as an opportunity to truly test the fuel’s viability, but also to further explore the pros and cons of CNG proliferation across America. The trip will be completely documented by her via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and her blog, www.greenamericanroadtrip.com.
About CNG as a Fuel
CNG is made by compressing natural gas to less than one percent of its original volume. Recent studies have shown that vehicles powered by CNG produce up to 29 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to those powered by gasoline. A gallon equivalent of CNG costs up to 50 percent less than gasoline. It’s also extremely abundant in America.
